Bryony Nelson

Hello, I'm a trans and queer Portrait artist and illustrator from Central Bedfordshire currently based in Bristol. My work is influenced by the psychedelic poster design of the late 1960/70s, Surrealism, and the Post Modernists of 1980/90s New York.  Typically authorial and drawing from discussions of mental health and identity, I seek to take the quite introspective and personal subject matter and convey it in a way that is accessible and relatable to anyone that views it.

Trying To Get Your Attention

I created this short series to serve as mail-out promotional material. The idea was around what is the most succinct way to convey my style/practice etc, whilst playing around with the idea of 'grabbing your attention.'

States Of Mind

This project was an exploration of the various states of mind a person can have dealing with depression and anxiety during a national lockdown.

Sleepy Head

This painting was created in response to the abject boredom of living during a national lockdown.

Journey To Trypophobia

Inspired by the phenomenon of trypophobia. The concept for this project was to create an 'uncanny valley' research journal of animals taken over by trypophobic imagery. Suitably disgusting.
