Edie Bisseker

I am a primarily menswear-focussed designer with a strong eye for graphics and colour. During my second year at UWE, I began to specialise in Knitwear and have loved machine-knitting ever since (would never stop if I could). I also enjoy creative pattern cutting and have experience with zero-waste pattern cutting.

In my work, I am very research-driven and I try to focus on weird and playful concepts - if something is funny and fascinating, it's so much easier to devote yourself to. I enjoy experimenting with textiles and I like to design through processes and sampling, rather than sketching

with a silhouette in mind. This past year, I've realised how much I like to bring painting and digital art into my work. When I’m not knitting, you’ll find me on my Instagram (@ribbedforyourpleasure). Currently, I am working towards launching my final collection into the beginnings of a knitwear brand.

My final collection started out as a lockdown-boredom project. I wanted to practise painting at speed so I had the idea to visit online chat sites such as Omegle and Chatroulette.

I started exploring the idea of webcam footage as views into interiors and as a way of accessing organic compositions.

I found these online chat sites a very rich resource, for portraiture especially, but also for concepts and themes for my work. They can seem quite ‘seedy’ places but I experienced a lot of funny and interesting conversations.

From this research, I produced a range of knitted samples and am currently working on translating these to final garments.
