Fashion Textiles

We challenge students to rethink existing systems in the Fashion Industry and give them the opportunity to explore a range of design methodologies in the development of their practice. Students are equipped with the Design skills and understanding they need to develop work that is ambitious, relevant and sustainable; work that synthesis's their individual design ethos and creative strengths with their professional ambitions.

Studio teaching is underpinned by rigorous approaches to drawing and visual communication. Students acquire an in depth knowledge of pattern cutting and materials. Students have access to a wide portfolio of technical resources that include knit and textile print, as well as an industry-standard sample room that includes a full spec of industrials and digital embroidery machines.

All students have access to industry-standard software through Adobe Creative Cloud and are supported in CAD through a core curriculum of workshops. Digital fabrication enables students to explore ideas using state-of-the-art technology and to envisage immersive, immaterial Fashion experiences – alongside the real and haptic. Live briefs are part of the core curricula for all students; this year's live briefs include collaborations with Phoebe English, Shield 360 and Virgin (Galactic).
