Laura Tanner

Hello! I’m Laura, a BA (Hons) Fashion Textiles graduate designer, creative pattern cutter and knitwear award winner.

I’m a multi-disciplinary, concept-driven creative and my practice spans from research to final production. My design work presents a conscious approach towards the wardrobe with functionality, adaptability and environmentally-considered fabric combinations and production methods taking focus, alongside a portfolio of unisex garments to ensure inclusivity and a relaxation of stereotypes.

I am a womenswear, menswear and unisex designer, knitwear designer, creative pattern cutter, machinist, machine knitter, maker and researcher. Innovation in both its subtle and obvious forms drives my work and my

graduate portfolio below - The 3-in-1: Daily Conscious Living - presents my explorations of both knitted and woven design working simultaneously as one, with texture combinations, finishings and details being celebrated.

THE 3-IN-1 _ MATERIAL COMMUNICATIONS _ DESIGN AND TOILE DEVELOPMENT _ (CLICK IMAGE TO OPEN PDF)

The toile explores 3 garments that work as one: an outer garment, a base layer and a waterproof poncho that gathers up, acting as a pac-a-mac - utilising the architectural elements of layering, shelter and protection.

THE 3-IN-1: DAILY CONSCIOUS LIVING _ COLLAGE LINE UP

The collection blends knitwear and woven garments within a neutral colour palette to ensure the contrasting compositions become the focus without distraction - as a whitewashed or concrete wall would show its textures upon the surface.

Utilising the architectural idea of interior vs. exterior with the application of colour (frames and draping), alongside a leather study into flat surfaces and prominent plains of colour (adding a structural element).

''TEXTURES ARE TELLING'' _ MATERIAL COMBINATIONS AND OVER-DYE _ (CLICK IMAGE TO OPEN PDF)

The practice of over-dying employs the same concept as the neutral collection - the details, textures and surfaces are still the focus as the singular wash of colour will not distract from them.

''TEXTURES ARE TELLING'' _ OVER-DYE COLLAGED LINE UP

The outfits here combine both knit and woven elements, with large structural garments that wrap around the body or attach as accessories - furthering the multi-use concepts.
