Charlotte Edyvean

Specialising in experimental knitwear development, I am a concept driven womenswear designer, with a relaxed street-style aesthetic, often taking references from sportswear and leisurewear. My concepts surround our relationship with the modern world and pose questions on how our experiences and relationships are ever-changing as the world evolves.

Taking influence from urban landscapes, architecture and subcultural references, my work juxtaposes contemporary ideas with traditional hand craft techniques, putting a playful spin on how these practices are applied to fashion design, with a forward thinking approach.

I am skilled in knitwear development, pattern cutting, concept creation and design development with strong Adobe CAD skills , bringing 2D designs to life through innovative experimentation, which I have put into practice both through my time at university and in industry working for brands such as AGR and Wright & Doyle.

CONCEPT BOARD AND EARLY DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Introducing the concept for my final collection, 'Hyper-material' explores an overindulgence of the senses with colours and textures from urban cityscapes and conveys these experiences through contrasting knitted textiles, screen printing and devore to create a sensory overload.

KNIT AND DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Following an oversized and relaxed aesthetic, with references to sportswear and leisure throughout, the collection takes influence from photography of diverse city scapes, capturing a sense of urban grittiness which is conveyed through a juxtaposition of layering opposing knitted textures.

KNITTED SAMPLES

Working with mohair, Lycra, lurex and cotton, my final samples were knitted on a range of different guage machines - 10gg Stoll, 14gg Stoll and 8gg Dubied , using a range of techniques including inlay, plaiting, flocking and devore.

RANGE PLAN

Using Illustrator CADs to build a range plan and technical working drawings for my final collection, all layers can be worn alongside each other and can be used to build different looks.
