Shows divisions of space into concentric rings, outer ring providing views of and connection to external landscape and weather/lighting conditions, inner ring providing more insulated spaces for social or educational functions, with core functions (plant, WC, circulation) inside the 'stem'
The mushroom structure of the building is visible from the oustide and integral to the identity and ethos of the building, the site, and the organisation of the facility as one whole organism.
A sociable, creative and welcoming café under the mushroom form, a community kitchen that prepairs pay-what-you-can meals from produce grown on-site and salvaged from local supermarkets, and a reading room/workspace with views out to nature
The intensive green roof provides biodiversity and means the entire footprint of the building is planted. The glazing allows a strong visual connection with the landscape, as well as allowing a view of the mushroom structure from outside.
A single shared lobby was important in destigmatizing 'rehabilitation', but privacy was maintained by providing sheltered and sensitively arranged therapy spaces. This building is surrounded by grasses and trees to provide additional privacy from the adjacent streets.
