Hale Nguyen

Drawing on my imagination and personal understanding of the world, my work primarily focuses on the themes of memory and recall. I consider re-remembering as an act of repair, bringing the forgotten into the present.

My paintings contain influences from the lacquer, and mother-of-pearl paintings from my childhood home to explore the authentic, exotic and questions of Asian Cultures in contemporary European art. My oil paintings reveal intimate spaces in otherworldly landscapes filled with mystery and tranquil.

It is the sense of the sublime unknown that I hope for viewers to respond to, to explore the depths of their imagination, and embrace the beauty of longing and finding peace in the loss of people and hazy memories.
