Isaac Yorke

I am passionate about design and approach it with creativity, lateral thinking, and hard work. I am ambitious and excited by design but like to approach it pragmatically and look to solve problems in the simplest and most effective way while also paying attention to the beauty in design. I am a good communicator and enjoy working closely with a team and or with a client and feel that design is a collaborative process and enjoy both personal and group projects where I get to work with, create with, and learn from others. I hold my work to the highest standard throughout the design process embracing critical thinking, always looking to learn more.

Ascend

Rethink, and redesign assistive furniture taking a more minimal and aesthetic focused approach, with particular focus on assistance over intervention, and creating something functional, accessible, and beautiful.

Mechanism

The new design is a spring loaded sliding scissor mechanism, that runs on a damped linear bearing. This allows for gentle, subtle assistance in the users sit-to-stand, and stand-to-sit movements.

Aesthetics / Form

Following closely feedback from the users and interviewees, the form looks to be modern, contemporary, sleek, organic, and minimal. The new design celebrates the idea of sitting on nothing at all, both in the sitting and in the upright position.

Movement

The spring loaded mechanism allows the chair to follow the users movement and helps them move in a more efficient sit-to-stand motion.
