Annie Hughes

In my practice, I work with lens-based media, performativity, and humour to subvert the male gaze. I work alongside my mum, who as my model has taken on roles of The Femme Fatale, The Damsel in Distress and many others. I draw on the visual languages of advertising and cinema to question and undermine sexist depictions of women in the media. Alongside this, I work with still and moving image, illustration, and found images and objects. Professionally, I work as a studio photographer and editor, specialising in portraiture and editorial styles.
