Carlotta Balestra Lawrence

I am a multidisciplinary illustrator based in Bristol, creatively interested in making public, accessible art. In the past year I’ve specialised in protest art in my personal practice, documenting the resistance to genocide in Gaza in Bristol. I have visually responded to the current climate through textile screen-printing, digital embroidery, casting, photography, reportage drawing and collaging. I do this work because I believe illustration has the power to make a positive change. It is important for me to make work that is topical and use illustration to interpret, respond and engage the world around me. During my process I love to push an idea through many mediums and my projects are very research driven.

I also have experience in mask-making, mural painting, tattooing, clothing design, art-assisting and narrative projects. I’m a fluid, open-minded artist looking for both collaborative and individual work where illustration is used to make the world brighter.
