Collage of screenprinted papers with marigold, madder root, and indigo inks. 48 cm x 64 cm
Alia Knowlan is a New York based artist, educator, designer, and researcher exploring the interconnections found within our living world. She works with foraged, grown, and recycled plants to create an array of natural inks for painting, printmaking and collage while adhering to a low-waste, non-chemical, and regenerative process. By looking to nature for knowledge, Alia allows the experience of foraging, ink making, and the inks themselves to inform the outcome of her work and deepen her kinship with the interconnected, interspecies communities she is apart of.
Alia teaches workshops to share her knowledge of natural ink-making, printmaking, and collage. Through her teaching she aims to inspire others to cultivate connection, foster curiosity, and pursue environmental stewardship and social responsibility. She has a BFA in Graphic Design and a Masters in Multidisciplinary Printmaking. Her work has been shown across the United States and Europe.
