Nhi Phuong Nguyen

Hi I am Nhi Nguyen, a 2025 Graduate at UWE, Bristol, specialising in Fashion and Textiles design, with a focus on embroidery within my work.
Born and raised in Vietnam, I grew up with a deep respect for our older generations and through my Buddhist religion engaged with rituals to honour our families’ ancestors. On moving to the UK, I was intrigued as to how different cultures mourn and remember their dead.
Impressionism and the transformation of life and death based on my Buddhist beliefs, has inspired me to develop a collection of Tambour embroidery motifs that are rich with floral references, reflecting the the Victorian mourning hair wreaths. References are historical and cultural and the juxtaposition of my Vietnamese heritage, Victorian mourning traditions and a deep understanding of contemporary fashion has inspired a collection that is directional and explores new ways to creatively reinvent traditional techniques.
