Sarah Harper
Through large-scale installations and paintings, I manipulate psychological space to initiate bodily response and emotional triggers. While very emotional at its core, my practice explores themes of power, control and vulnerability. I am in a constant enquiry to achieve the sublime, to evoke that of life-like energies and strange otherworldly forces and intensities that we can’t quite describe or understand. I seek to make work that is more-than-material, to create that which feels alive. I question the role of the viewer and their relationship with my work, often using my practice as a tool to enforce confrontations and isolation.

SNAP
S.Harper SNAP 2025. Sound installation, site based. 6 tannoy horn speakers.
The Snap is an erratic happening, ceasing to exist immediately after occurring. Existing everywhere suddenly then losing all weight and substance, leaving viewers only with the memory.
INTAKE!! (2025). Spike Open 2025 ; The Pink Door 2025 ; Spike UWE Studios, Bristol.
Exploring themes of false safety and the capacity for violence that materials hold. On its surface an 1000 word text forms a fractured prophesy of betrayal and control. Emanating within, an audio piece formed entirely from the exhale of breath.
