Yasmin Akbay

Influenced by the people and places around me, I am an illustrator, graphic designer and mixed media artist with a love for printmaking and typography. My work is inspired by anti-establishment, anti-capitalist ideologies alongside socioeconomic and political issues in the UK, such as the cost of living crisis, toxic media culture and class inequality. I am invested in pushing work on feminism, with most recent bodies focusing on the lack of safety for women and other minority groups in heavily white, male-dominated sports such as skateboarding.
Driving work from first-hand experiences as a female skateboarder, I'm intent on creating work on the sexualisation, fetishisation and objectification of women in skateboarding. I am passionate about pushing for change by advocating for more inclusivity, diversity and safe spaces for women to gain full autonomy over their bodies, minds and femininity.
We deserve to be fearless in our pursuits, so let us

be.

Tell Me I'm A Pretty Feminist

What Part Of Me Is Still Mine?

Specifically from a women's perspective, this piece depicts the nature of surviving a sexual assault. I am showcasing the lack of perceived autonomy a woman has left after being assaulted, and the feeling that her body is no longer hers.
