Inès Vonthron

Hi, I’m Ines! I’ve always loved the more hands-on side of design, whether that is experimenting with unconventional materials (like nettles and seaweed) drawing, or building physical models. Over the past few years, I’ve been lucky enough to do commissioned model making, material/ construction research and live builds, which has really shaped the way I think and approach design.

My final year project, Rig F, comes from a lot of research into our changing environment. Set in 2090, it’s a speculative oxygen factory, seaweed farm, and civic refuge built above the rising tides. It uses a cryogenic plant to pump oxygen back into marine 'dead zones', helping life return to the area. I didn't want to design something that pretends to magically fix climate change. Instead, Rig F is just a look at how we might adapt, find some comfort, and live within the changing conditions.
