Rachel Gillibrand

My work is autobiographical and addresses themes of loneliness, trauma and grief through the sub-conscious expression of longing. I have been formally studying art for only a short time but have been producing work as a means of expressing these themes for much longer. My practice is iterative, using repetitive images to create a strong sense of the enduring nature of grief, drawing the audience into my world, challenging common perceptions of how we all deal with loss. I work mainly in photography and film creating installations that encourage the audience to draw close and participate in the message of the work.

One dream of loss, 365 stills, thermal printed and woven into a blanket, hand-stitched onto a bedsheet. The images will fade, as may the dream.
