Michelle Wan is a fine artist who specialises in painting portraits and
landscapes in various mediums, expressing her concepts through textures and colours.
She has always enjoyed creating through textiles, found materials, and mediums, as it is a great way for her to connect to her subjects through her work.
The general motivation for her work is the urge to preserve and capture ideas and feelings through moments, to showcase how stories interlink and synthesise through her.
Recently she's been challenging the relationship between her and different mediums. From acrylic paint to yarn to charcoal and now oil paints.
Her favourite reactions to get for her work are when there are two or more contradictory interpretations. With Level 0, some viewers without context got the idea that the piece is sweet due to the warm colour palette, yet others viewed the piece as creepy and unsettling due to the background.
Level 231
This piece showcases the artist's parents in Level 231 of the backrooms, commonly known as Slaughterhouse or "Where I Call Home". The mediums of choice are oil paints and oil pastels.
