Divyashree Kalburgi
MA Design Communication: Graphic Design 2026
Divyashree Kalburgi is a graphic designer from Bengaluru, India, currently based in Bristol. Her work uses design as a tool for documentation rather than decoration. Through typeface design, publication design, and community-based research, she investigates how a spoken, unscripted language can be given visual form without losing the qualities that make it spoken in the first place.
Her degree project, Bhasha, documents the Khatri community through a visual design system built around the community. Drawing on family recipes, textiles, weddings, and conversations with community, the project traces how a language survives without a script, carried instead through speech and memory. This system extends across a publication, zines, posters, and a motion piece, each translating a part of the community's spoken world into something an outside audience can understand. For Divya, typography and design becomes a way of preserving a language and a community that has never been written.
