Archie Smith

Hi, my names Archie, I'm a product design technology graduate with a keen interest in automotive, mechanical and industrial design. I have over 2 years of real-world experience in multiple sectors, including rail/train design, quality inspection, engine assembly and automotive design.

This experience has been at several different places, including Transport Design International, Laranca Engineering, Jaguar-Land Rover and M-Tec Engineering Solutions.

I have excellent social and communication skills and enjoy being in a role which allows me to interact with different employee sectors of a business and work positively as both part of a team and as an individual.

For my final project, I looked into the importance of lithium-ion batteries and ways in which we might reuse these batteries more effectively, given their importance in electric vehicles and domestic products.

Now at the end of my university career, I am openly seeking a challenging and engaging role to work on.

The Volt 01 battery pack

For my final project, I designed the Volt 01 - a custom, modular battery pack designed to reuse 18650 lithium-ion battery cells.

Giving users the freedom to create a cleaner future

The battery packs modular and custom design gives users the power to reuse old lithium battery cells, not only preventing material wastage but upselling the pursuit of clean energy battery projects (E-scooters/ E-bikes).

Easy to use battery wiring system

Current solutions heavily rely on permanent soldering in order to fuse batteries together. With the Volt 01, the user can place the conductive nickel strips into the battery cases themselves, creating a simple, non-permanent battery pack.

"Drop-in" battery case design

Thanks to the drop-in design of the case system, the user can clip the batteries into place in whatever orientation they wish, be it parallel or series battery configurations.
