Daytimers

Logline
Rupa, a teenager with epilepsy, dreams of dancing under the lights of a South Asian rave, but when her eccentric inventor aunt creates an anti-strobe protective helmet, the opportunity arrives sooner than expected — forcing Rupa to confront whether she is ready to face her fears and find belonging.

Synopsis
On Rupa's 18th birthday she’s prepped for a quiet afternoon in with her overprotective parents, she’s just settled in to read her gift, Epilepsy and Me (8th edition), when her inventor auntie arrives, armed with her latest invention - the Helmstrobesphere, a helmet designed to shield Rupa’s eyes and prevent seizures, and a plan of hitting the town. Under the pretence of going to the shop Rupa and Neeta Masi set off cross country towards a secret Asian daytime rave at the
local community centre. Along the way, both are tested: Rupa by social anxiety and exposure to strobe

lighting, and Neeta by the reappearance of a familiar face from her past... By the time the pair arrive at the community centre tensions are high with Rupa begining to doubt whether the rave is a good idea, but after opening up to her aunt, Neeta Masi’s wise words give her the confidence to take the final steps and dance the day away.
