Poems to Yomi

Our production faced significant challenges in authentically recreating this historical period.

Casting presented our greatest hurdle, as we needed actors capable of executing precise samurai movements while also speaking Japanese fluently.

Fortunately, we secured exceptional performers who not only delivered authentic language skills but also contributed valuable cultural insights that enhanced the production's accuracy.

Another major achievement was securing private land for filming at no cost, providing us with a controlled environment where we could legally use our replica katanas over a two-day shoot.

Throughout production, we remained committed to the director's vision of creating a film that honoured the historical period of early 1600s Japan and the distinctive cinematic style of samurai films from the 1960s.
