More than a mother, Yuri journeys through memory and the quiet fragments of her Japanese childhood to find peace in who she has become.

Synopsis
Yuri is a poetic observational documentary following Yurika (“Yuri”), a Japanese mother living in Bristol, as she reflects on identity, perfectionism and the reality of early motherhood. After immigrating to the UK with her British husband while pregnant with her son Oli, Yuri loses her sense of individuality beneath the role of motherhood. Through memories of her joyful childhood in Japan, Yuri begins to reconnect with the parts of herself she feels she has lost. Inspired by her culture, family traditions and childhood experiences, she creates new memories with Oli through the generational love for sewing, food and nature. Blending observational footage with poetic imagery, archive and textured Super 8 film, Yuri explores how nostalgia, motherhood and cultural identity intertwine, revealing a vulnerable portrait

of a mother learning to live in the present rather than chasing perfection.
