Each year as part of their longstanding partnership, Spike Island and UWE Bristol offer three Graduate Fellowships to promising graduates of Fine Art. These artists, selected from an open call to students, are offered studio space at Spike Island for a year. This opportunity aims to support and encourage young artists in Bristol as they begin to develop their professional practices.
We are delighted to announce the recipients of the 2023/24 UWE-Spike Island Graduate Fellowships, following a selection process led by Senior Lecturer Kit Poulson and Carmen Juliá, Curator, Spike Island. The selected artists are:

Harry Judge
Max Silliton
Lolly, Harry and Max will benefit from access to a shared studio at Spike Island for a year, alongside mentoring opportunities, Associates network membership and £1,200 each to support costs of art materials during the Fellowship (funded by UWE Bristol’s John Hullah Early Career Scholarship scheme). We will welcome them to their studio in October 2023.
Ten graduating students of UWE creative degrees have also been selected to receive UWE-funded bursary membership of Spike Island’s Associates Network in 2023/24. Following a selection process led by Saphia Abrahamovitch-Venner, Assistant Curator: Artist Development and Engagement, Spike Island and Mike Ricketts, Associate Head of Department: Art, the confirmed Associates Bursary recipients are:

Spike Island are also currently inviting applications to their Dreamtime Fellowship 2023/24, which includes access to studio space and a £5,000 bursary funded by artist Luke Jerram. Bristol-based artists who have graduated from a BA or MA Fine Art course from any institution within the last five years are eligible to apply and the deadline is 23 July 2023. Find out more here
