Amy Stevenson

My work explores the effects that the pandemic has had on my view and connection to my loved ones. I explore this isolation and separation through oil paintings and graphite pieces, which worked to form a frame for my memories.

I began to explore the importance of door and window frames and their confinements for both myself and my pieces, titled ‘Distant Spaces – Series’. These works lack presence yet hold the idea of home with worn down carpets and doors left ajar, hinting at the life of the people who live there while remaining quiet and disconnected from

them. The melancholy loneliness of the empty chair in ‘Further than the Window’ is a depiction of my longing to connect with and share time with loved ones again.

I also co-designed, co-compiled, and co-edited the Drawing and Print 2021 publication.
