Lorelei von Leyden

I believe in understanding a brief and responding to it with design that explores, questions and communicates the issue or offer clearly.
I believe in visual communication as a way to connect and inspire, but also as a way to express ideas with appropriate care and context.
I believe in being ambitious, but I also believe in being relevant and remaining attentive to detail.
I develop outcomes that provoke thought and reaction, aiming to instigate change through bold, critical, and visually engaging pieces.
I address culture, society and identity through my work.

The Constant Script

A B3 publication exploring the endurance of traditional Arabic script within Moroccan urban environments. Combining street photography with Majorelle blue screen-printed overlays, the design uses right-aligned typography, rhythmic binding, and pull-out pages to reflect calligraphy’s fluid, continuous movement.

The ideal woman

This project raises awareness of how AI girlfriends are being coded with traits that have marginalised women for centuries. Looking at Laura Bates’ The New Age of Sexism, it questions the replacement of real women with idealised virtual versions.

A Voice Suppressed

A B5 publication responding to the ISTD brief Power, exploring the historical and ongoing regulation of women within Catholicism through testimonies from a local church. Using typography, structured layouts, and screen-printed interventions, the design contrasts institutional control with lived resistance.

JVL Monogram

A monogram designed for a writer with the initials JVL, featuring a fluid, calligraphic style that elegantly forms the shape of a pen, symbolising the owner's craft and personality. Produced onto appropriate physical objects.

The route to the ideal life

Two LED bus display boards critique the socially constructed “correct” route through life. Programmed as opposing journeys, one presents an idealised path, while the other, shaped by public reactions, offers a realistic alternative, exposing the absurdity of prescribed success narratives.
