Iz Mai

Iz Mai is a Bristol based photographer specialising in medium format photography and personal based work.

Her projects are based around sensitive topics, often dealing with trauma and new ways of processing this. She is particularly interested in the cathartic nature of image making and within art as a medium.

Her most recent project, Little, is a personal reflection into childhood trauma. The work explores her relationship towards past trauma through metaphor, as a means to share what words can sometimes not translate. It also acts as an opportunity to raise awareness for mental health and reminds us of the importance of speaking up.

Importantly, the project does not reflect them as victims; but as survivors celebrating the present and their courage as strong, brave, intellectual women.
Together, the work is the collaboration of love and hardship, family and blood.
