MYSTERIOUS ADVENTURE at Spike Island Open Studios 2026
Through a pair of out-of-focus binoculars, everything becomes unclear. No one knows what world these binoculars reveal. Mysterious adventure continues.
Ayuko Dan is a performative artist, experimenting with creating a series of encounters/happenings in people’s daily lives with a question “how art can exist in the everyday environment”. Her performativity is a reflection of the constant processes in daily life. Her movements, left to the whims of time and place, lead to unpredictable consequences through interactions with her surroundings, which triggers another performativity to unfold. Her practice involves humour and humanity – combined with her movements, it provokes minimal chaos in people’s minds. Ultimately, her work aims to evoke in viewers peculiar feelings and thoughts imbued with a distinctive ‘scent’ in the continuum of time. Before entering the art field, she pursued her profession as a translator. Her background in weaving words within a world outside of the art industry has provided strong support for the embodiment of her concepts through means other than language.
