Pakistan 2025: Shot on 35mm Film
Asad Ali is a Canadian-Pakistani filmmaker and photographer who has also lived in Thailand, with a background in Geography and Cinema. As a Third Culture Kid, his experience of moving between cultures and landscapes has shaped an observational way of seeing, one that is drawn to quiet moments, distant figures, and the emotional atmosphere of place.
His work sits at the intersection of observation and imagination, blending documentary craft with poetic, fictional structure. Influenced by fly-on-the-wall filmmaking and minimalist visual storytelling, he creates images that leave space for ambiguity, inviting the audience’s imagination to become part of the experience. He is interested in redefining natural world storytelling, moving beyond survival-driven narratives to explore identity, belief, displacement, and the unseen emotional lives that exist within landscapes. Drawing from multiple cultures and geographies, he approaches filmmaking as a space where myth and reality coexist.
