Ceramic Monoliths
Collaboration
Made by Tegan Davies and Holly Lewin, these ceramic sculptures were made in an exploration of our Cornish home culture. We drew inspiration from the industrial waste of Cornwall’s mining heritage, as well as prehistoric monuments such as the standing stones present throughout the Cornish landscape. These, on top of Cornwall’s drastic coastline, informed our hand-building process and approach to decoration. We used tools to carve away the clay surface, mimicking erosion and ancient stone carvings, as well as our own hand marks which offered a technique both primal and reminiscent of miners working with the land.
