Hailing from the North East coast of Ireland, Felix Surplus is a filmmaker who specialises primarily in stop motion set design and cinematography, whilst also thoroughly enjoying the entire filmmaking process as a whole.
Felix's love for making videos first came from when he was gifted a camcorder as a young boy, and he has now been making both stop motion and live action films for over a decade.
His latest stop motion project "Flotsam and Jetsam" is his most ambitious yet, taking him almost two years to write, build, direct, animate and edit, with the entirety of production taking
Flotsam and Jetsam follows the journey of a robot through a frozen wasteland in search of shelter, and after discovering an abandoned city, it roams deep into its depths in search of aid, only to discover it may not be as vacant as it originally thought.

Set design
When writing the script Felix wanted to really test his set building abilities so intentionally wrote a story that would include a ton of different environments. It also helped keep the project feeling fresh as the sets would regularly change.

Over the 8 months spent on production Felix made over 20 sets ranging from frozen mountains to twisting corridors to a lush garden. Constructing them all on a 8ft x 8ft stage he built in his student house bedroom.
