Saksham Mathur
Hi!! I am Saksham, a passionate Part 1 Architecture Graduate, driven by a deep interest in socially responsive and sustainable design. Over the past few years, I’ve developed a strong foundation through live projects and honed my skills across various software tools through a summer internship and RIBA Mentorship scheme. I'm a creative thinker with a love for research, community engagement, and thoughtful design processes.
I enjoy collaborative work and am always eager to learn from others while contributing fresh ideas. My aspiration is to design meaningful spaces that improve lives, particularly through urban regeneration and inclusive design. I’m now looking to gain hands-on experience in a practice that values innovation, people-centred design, and environmental responsibility.

Turning the Page: Reviving Gainsborough Square through Literature and Community
The Paper Commons reimagines Gainsborough Square as a vibrant cultural hub, hosting a literature festival, a lively high street, a handmade paper workshop, reading pods, and communal stairs, fostering storytelling, creativity, and social connection in a people-centric, inclusive public realm.
Evolving Edges
The building's form evolved from an L-shape into a refined mass, introducing an internal street, angled entrance, and aligned edges, responding to site geometry, movement flow, and masterplan cohesion.
Cut & Face
A colourful, origami-inspired folded façade brings festive vibrancy to the south elevation, casting playful shadows and rhythms. The section complements this energy with a sawtooth roof that channels soft north light into the library and atrium, enhancing brightness and calm.
Quire-Craft Workshop
An intimate, hands-on workshop where the art of handmade papermaking comes alive. Overlooking the pulp-processing area, the space encourages creative engagement, celebrating craft, learning, and community in a focused and vibrant environment.
Reading Pods: A Quiet Retreat
Bathed in soft daylight with views of Stoke Park, this serene nook offers a gentle escape. Cushioned pods and low seating create a peaceful setting for slow moments, where stories unfold in quiet comfort and calm reflection.
Detailing the Fold
The building features a glulam frame with CLT panels for strength and low carbon impact. An origami-inspired timber façade modulates light, while recycled paper-mâché bricks define interiors. Passive design strategies ensure daylight, ventilation, and energy efficiency throughout.
