Where’s My Representation: The Unseen Hues’ is a powerful exploration of the misrepresentation of Black women in beauty and fashion. This project highlights the persistent gaps in industry representation by featuring two Black women with contrasting skin tones, emphasising the lack of inclusivity and visibility.

Through thoughtful styling, I fused personal and cultural references that deeply resonate within the Black community—mixing traditional “Sunday Church” attire with urban trends to bridge heritage with contemporary expression. This styling approaches the lived experiences of Black women through my eyes.

As a mixed-media project, I utilise film and digital photography to create a deep-rooted, nostalgic connection with the audience.
Film photography brings an intimate, raw, and timeless effect, while the digital captures the modern reality of this ongoing issue. By blending both mediums, I create a visual message that speaks to Black beauty representation’s past, present, and future.
